A mix of the familiar
and the strange...
Rig Veda is the artist moniker of New York City composer / producer / multi-instrumentalist Jay Rothman who runs midtown Manhattan recording facility “Mirrortone Studios”. Rig Veda is a unique blend of electronic music, modern jazz, hip hop, and Indian classical music. Influenced by Alice Coltrane, Flying Lotus, David Bowie’s Blackstar, and other artist fusing these different genres, Rig Veda has released 3 EP’s in the last 3 years. Both 2017’s “Hymn In The Cut” and 2019’s “Silent Spring” share a similar DNA, while 2019’s “Laboratory Experiments Vol. 1” features more hip hop oriented material and includes a number of New York’s up and coming rappers providing vocals. Other collaborators include Cole Kamen-Green on Trumpet (Cuddle Magic, The Superpowers), Rishab Sharma on Sitar (former student of Ravi Shankar), and vocalists Hannah Sumner, Mike Larry Draw, Dreux, and Free Eon. The first single off of “Silent Spring” was released accompanied by a music video shot by film director Marcelo Mayen. New music from Rig Veda will be released towards the end of 2020.
